OU Salsa Team Auditions 2011/12!!!
Coached by Giles and Rosa Eadle (http://www.onsalsa.com/). Giles and Rosa have trained the OUST since 2007, and will continue to train the team this year. Their objectives are to train the Team to a high standard to perform at Oxford events and also competitions and dance festivals around the UK. They teach ON1 salsa in Oxford and are also part of a professional dance group- IGNITE Dance Company. Check out the 2008/9 debut performance at Latino Royale here.
If you are an avid salsa dancer or would like to take your salsa dancing to a higher standard, come for auditions!
Date:SATURDAY 16st OCTOBER 2011
Venue: Somerville College, Flora Anderson Hall
Time: Auditions start promptly at 6pm.
OUST is a true team. As a group that focuses on sychronised shows, we value team spirit, and enjoy learning from each other, and constantly provide fellow team members with support and encouragement. If you like the sound of dancing as part of our team, then please do come and try out - we'd love to meet you!
Full details of what to expect on the day are below. Before registering for a number, you will be asked to confirm that you have read the OUST Guidelines 2011/12 - these contain all the information you might need about rehearsals, costumes, important dates etc. There will be copies available to read on the day, but to save time, you will be able to find them here soon..
Audition Details:
- LEVEL: All levels are welcome to audition, including beginners, as the coaches audition on the basis of potential. Obviously, the more experience you already have, the better your chances of being selected. However if you have only recently discovered salsa, but have a real passion for it and would be willing to put in the time to reach the required standard before performances start, then we would love to have you. Enthusiasm and a love of salsa and performing are just as valued as current technical ability!
- ON THE DAY: You do not need to prepare anything in advance. Auditions will start with a warm up, including shines and footwork. You will then be paired up with other dancers for social dancing. Everyone will dance with other auditionees, and also experienced past team members, so that we can observe your style, musicality and technical ability. There will be several rounds, with eliminations after each round. Just turn up, pretend you're at Anuba, and have fun!
- WHAT TO BRING: If you have dance shoes, please wear them - Wesley Memorial Hall has a suitable wooden floor. If you do not have dance shoes, wear something that will stay on your foot, that you can move in easily. Flip-flops not allowed! Please wear comfortable clothing, which won't get in the way of your dancing, and allows us to see your movements clearly.
Bring lots of water, as you may be there for several hours and water will not be provided. Also possibly snacks to keep you going. If you leave to get food/water/plasters during the rounds, you may miss your slot, so make sure you bring anything you may need!
- REGISTRATION: When you arrive you will be given a copy of the OUST Guidelines 2011/12, with details including rehearsal times and days, attendence requirements, subscription details etc etc. These guidelines will also be available here shortly. We will then take your details, and assign you a number. Please arrive with plenty of time to spare, as everyone must be ready to dance.
- RESULTS: Some eliminations will happen during the day. If you make it to the final round, the coaches and Captain will discuss the final round candidates and you will receive an email a few days later telling you the result.
**If you are already a member of another sport or dance team, you MAY NOT BE ELIGIBLE to join this dance team. Email salsasoc@studentclubs.ox.ac.uk before auditions if concerned, or ask on the day**
